Wimbledon semis for NZ's Routliffe, Venus

The success at Wimbledon 2024 for New Zealand continues switching from singles and Lulu Sun to doubles.


Both Routliffe and Michael Venus have won their respective doubles quarterfinals to reach the last four of the tournament.


Second seeds Routliffe and Canadian Gabby Dabrowski beat eighth seeds Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Rebpublic) and Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-4 6-7(5) 6-4 in the Ladies’ Doubles.


LATEST HEADLINES:


They will now take on American pair Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk who are the seventh seeds.


At present Routliffe is likely to move from three to number one in the world in the WTA ranking


Earlier on the same day Venus and Neal Skupski defeated the German combination of Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens 7-6(1) 7-6(1) Gentlemen’s Doubles quarterfinals.


They now play the unseeded team of Finn, Harri Heliovaara and Britain's Henry Patten for a place in the final.


Venus was runner up in 2018 and reached the semifinals in 2019 at Wimbledon.
