New Zealand players experienced an up-and-down Day 11 at Wimbledon 2024 as the tournament comes closer to its conclusion.
Michael Venus and Brit Neal Skupski lost in their gentlemen’s doubles semifinal 6-4 7-6(1) to Finland's Harri Heliovaara and Britain’s Henry Patten on Thursday (Friday NZ Time).
LATEST HEADLINES:
Venus and Skupski had won 12 matches in a row going into this semifinal, played in front of a big crowd on No 1 Court, but their winning ended as they were unable to break their opponent’s serve through the match.
For Venus, it was his second semifinal at the tournament where he has also been a beaten finalist in doubles.
However, Venus and Erin Routliffe are into the semifinals of the mixed doubles after a good win over American Desirae Krawczyk and Skupski 7-5 6-4 in one hour 18 minutes on No 3 Court.
They will move on to play Poland's Jan Zielinski and Hsieh Su-Wei on Friday (Saturday NZT) for a place in Sunday’s (Monday NZT) final.
Routliffe and Gaby Dabrowski play Krawczyk and Caroline Dolehide on No 1 Court on Day 12 of the tournament on Friday (Saturday NZT).
At present, Routliffe has a good chance of being the new WTA doubles No 1 when rankings come out next week.
