No more play for the remainder of the year for New Zealand tennis pro Lulu Sun after she withdrew from the WTA's Hong Kong Open.
The world No 40 and 2024 Wimbledon quarterfinalist injured her back at the US Open late in August and has struggled to get back on court since.

"I'm disappointed and saddened to share the news that due to an injury, I've had to step back from the Hong Kong tournament. I arrived six days ago fully read to give my all, but things didn't go as planned,” Sun posted on Instagram.
“Now, it's all about healing and come back even strong in 2025. Huge thanks and warmest wishes to everyone I've met here in Hong Kong - you've made me feel so at home, as always. Looking forward to coming back and seeing you all again soon."
The now 23-year-old changed her nationality from Swiss to New Zealand earlier in the year. She was born in Te Anau but raised in Europe.
Sun had confirmed earlier that she would start the new year in Auckland at the ASB Classic.
Meanwhile, Michael Venus and Britain's Neal Skupski have been beaten in the doubles final at the ATP's Vienna tournament in Austria.
They lost to the local team of Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler 6-4 3-6 1-10 in 1 hour 25 minutes in front of a crowd close to 10,000 spectators.
Venus, 37, has won three doubles titles this year and is currently ranked 20th in the world.
New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe and Canadian Gaby Dabrowski will play the year-end doubles tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
