A wet outfield has prevented any play for the second straight day of the Black Caps' one-off test against Afghanistan in India.

With the sun shining for the majority of Tuesday, much like Day 1, at the Greater Noida Stadium, overnight rain meant the field, especially the bowler run-ups, could not get sufficiently dry to allow play.

Umpires made several inspections throughout the day, before the decision to abandon play was made at 3pm local time (8.30pm NZ Time).

After heavy rain in the weeks leading up to the match in Greater Noida, outside New Delhi, the grounds crew replaced troublesome sections of turf on Day 2 and allowed spectators onto the ground to help in the drying effort, to no avail.

The Black Caps arrived from their hotel, conducting a net session on the single strip beside the main wicket, while the Afghan team were absent.

The historic first-ever test match between the two countries has now been reduced to three days, with the toss set for 9am local time on Wednesday (2.30pm NZT), pending suitable field conditions.

Following the Afghanistan test, the Black Caps will head to Galle for two tests against Sri Lanka later this month.
