Routliffe, Dabrowski battle into quarters

New Zealand's world No 1 doubles player Erin Routliffe and Canadian Gaby Dabrowski are through to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Toronto Open.


After receiving a bye in the first round as top seeds they played a late night match against Poland's Magda Linette and American Peyton Stearns.


LATEST HEADLINES:


The Kiwi-Canadian pair won 6-7(0), 7-6(3) 10-5 in the second round in one hour 50 minutes to progress to the last eight.


Routliffe and Dabrowski had a reasonable first serve percentage at 65.3 and took advantage of six out of 16 break points.


They will face the Canadian wildcard duo of Ariana Arseneault and Mia Kupres .


The younger pair who play NCAA tennis received a walkover win to the quarterfinals and with their carefree attitude could do anything in their match against the seeded pair.


Routliffe and Dabrowski are the current US Open champions have had a huge last six months with titles and Grand Slam appearances including the Wimbledon final last month.
