Routliffe beaten in final; Sun to face seed

A loss for New Zealand's Erin Routliffe and Canadian Gabby Dabrowski in the final of the Eastbourne International, but still good form ahead of Wimbledon.


They were beaten by the flamboyant pair of Lyudmyla Kichenok from Ukraine and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko.5-7, 7-6(2) 10-5 in one hour 54 minutes.


Meanwhile Lulu Sun has been drawn against No 8 seed Zheng Qinwen in the opening round at Wimbledon.

Having won three matches in the qualifying tournament to make it into the main draw and plays on the opening day.


Zheng who was a beaten finalist at the Australian Open is ranked eighth in the world, compared to Sun who is at 123,


Routliffe and Dabrowski, who are the No 2 seeds, have been drawn against 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva and her countrywoman Anastasia Potapova in the opening round of the ladies’ doubles.


Michael Venus and Neal Skupski are the No 9 seeds and in their opening match they will play the all-Austrian duo of Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler, who are both ranked 41 in the world.

Marcus Daniell has teamed up with Theo Arribage from France for what’s likely to be the 34-year-old’s final appearance at Wimbledon.


In the first round Daniell and Arribage have been drawn against Britain’s Julian Cash and America’s Robert Galloway.
