A new ruthless format has produced mixed fortunes for the New Zealand sevens sides at the second tournament of the World Series season in Cape Town
Just the winners of the four pools progress to the Cup semifinals. The Black Ferns Sevens did it easily with a 40- 10 win over China and a come-from-behind 22-12 victory over Japan.

However the New Zealand men can only finish fifth at best after a 47-15 thrashing by France resigned them to second in their pool.
They had earlier edged the USA 19-17 and now face Great Britain in it's playoff match.
The New Zealand women's side face France just after midnight tonight for a place in the Cup final.
