McLaughlin third in IndyCar championship

New Zealand driver Scott McLaughlin has finished third in the IndyCar championship after the final race of the series in Nashville.


In the final race of the season McLaughlin was the best of the three Kiwi's with a fifth place finish after being down at 18th at one stage during the race while Marcus Armstrong was seventh and Scott Dixon in 17th.

The race was won by Colton Herta with Pato Herta second and Josef Newgarden in third followed by Kyle Kirkwood.


Overall Alex Palou won his third Indycar championship at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix at the Nashville Superspeedway.


Palou finished 11th which was more than enough to seal his third Astor Challenge Cup in the last four years.


His closest title rival, Will Power, went five laps down early in the race due to a disconnected seat belt and finished 24th, eight laps down.


Spaniard, Palou finished with 544 points overall with Herta moving into second and 513 and McLaughlin 503.


Out of 17 starts McLaughlin had 12 top 10 finishes and three wins, and five poles.
