New Zealand middle-distance runner Maia Ramsden has set a new national record in the women’s outdoor mile.


Racing at the Borås Folksam GP in Sweden on Wednesday (Thursday NZ Time), Ramsden the Paris 1500m semifinalist improved on Christine Pfitzinger’s old national record from 1987 of 4 minutes 30.50 seconds.


LATEST HEADLINES:


Ramsden finished second in a time of 4:24.79, behind American Olivia Markezich who won in 4.24.06.


In third was Sage Hurta-Klecker from the United States in a time of 4.25.60.


Ramsden, 22, who runs out of Harvard, has now set herself to become a potential great for New Zealand after setting the 1500m record in Paris.


Kim Smith still holds the overall New Zealand mile record with her 4:24.14 indoors time.
