New Zealand's Lulu Sun has won her way into the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, beating British favourite Emma Raducanu.


The 23-year-old, born in Te Anau, beat British hope and former Grand Slam winner Raducanu 6-2 5-7 6-2 after hitting 52 winners and staying calm throughout the tight points on Sunday (Monday NZ Time).

Sun was able to hit powerfully on her left-handed forehand, but also use her serve to good effect with accuracy.


An emotional Sun said on court that she had to fight hard and struggled for words.


":I'm just incredibly, I don't even have the words right now", said an emotional Sun


"I'm just so happy to play on this court in front of everyone."


It was Sun's seventh win in a row after coming through qualifying. She will now face Croatian Donna Vekic. who has a current WTA ranking of 37.


Sun became the first New Zealander to play a singles match on Centre Court at Wimbledon since Chris Lewis in the men’s final in 1983.


She has also become the first Kiwi woman ever to make it to the singles quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
