Jones in contention, Hillier drops back

New Zealand's Sam Jones is in a tie for 14th midway through the DP World Tour's Spanish Open in Madrid.


He carded an even second round 71 to remain two-under overall, eight shots from runaway leader Angel Hidalgo of Spain at 10-under.


LATEST HEADLINES:


Left-hander Jones hit four birdies scatted with four bogeys in an inconsistent round, but still remains in a reasonable position with second place Joe Dean of England at six-under, only four shots away.


Meanwhile countryman Daniel Hillier's in a tie for 57th at two-over, making the cut at the same tournament after a second round 73.


Hillier double bogeyed the hole one, then hit birdies at four, five and seven, but bogeyed the ninth.


On the back nine he birdied the 14th and then bogeyed the 15th and 17th holes.
