A difficult start for kiwi golfer Lydia Ko at the Women's PGA Championship, the third Major of the year at the Sahalee Club in Washington.


She's carded a first round 75 after bogeys on the fourth, ninth, 12, 15th. Her round was saved somewhat with a birdie on the 18th hole.

She sits tied tied 69th, seven shots behind the leader, Lexi Thompson from the United States.


Now 27-years-old Ko won at the same venue in 2016 as a teenager.


Ko is one win away from the Hall of Fame, but has not won a Major in eight years.


Meanwhile Taranaki left-hander Sam Jones is competing at the KLM Open on the DP World Tour in Amsterdam with an overnight tee time.
