Black Caps defeat Pakistan in first ODI

The Black Caps have cruised to a 73 run win in the first One Day Internationl against Pakistan played in Napier.
Things didn't start so well for the home side on a pitch which aided the bowlers and had the Black Caps 50-3 after Will Young was out for one, debutant Nick Kelly 15 and Henry Nicholls 11.

However a 199 run stand by Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell set things straight from a slow build up to some explosive hitting helped take the 344-9 in the 50 overs.
Chapman scored 132 from 111 balls including six sixes and 13 fours. Mitchell ended up wiht 76 runs from 84 balls.

The Pakistan bowlers were almost unplayable early on, but eventually bled a staggering 43 extras
In their turn at bat Pakistan had an opening stand of 83 between Abdullah Shafique and Usman Khan with 36 and 39 respectively.
Stars Bbar Azzm and and Mohammad Rizwan made 78 and 30 each and Salman Agha 58 as the top order looked solid.
But some inspired bowling by Will O'Rourke 1-38 from 10 overs as well as Jacob Duffy taking 2-57 and Nathan Smith 4-60. Michael Bracewell took one wicket as did Abbas as the visitors were all out for 271 after 44.1 overs.
Game two of the three-match series is on Wednesday in Hamilton.
